Simone P. Joyaux,
ACFRE, is an internationally recognized leader in the
philanthropic profession – as a consultant, volunteer, writer and
teacher / presenter. She is the recipient of the 2003 Rhode Island
Outstanding Philanthropic Citizen Award and the 1987 Fundraising
Executive of the Year Award for Rhode Island.
Joyaux provides
consulting services in fund development, board and organizational
development, planning and personnel. Clients include all types and sizes
of not-for-profit organizations.
Joyaux works with
health and human services agencies, arts and cultural groups,
educational institutions, environmental and advocacy groups, and other
philanthropic organizations. Joyaux also provides services to government
agencies, foundations and corporations.
Simone speaks
internationally about fund development, planning and organizational
development issues. She serves as a faculty member for the Master of
Arts in Philanthropy and Development at Saint Mary’s University,
Minnesota. Her book Strategic Fund Development: Building Profitable
Relationships That Last has received rave reviews by professionals in
the field.
In 1994, Joyaux was
one of the first to achieve the credential of Advanced Certified Fund
Raising Executive (ACFRE). She is one of a small group worldwide holding
advanced certification in the profession, accomplished through a
rigorous peer review process that demonstrates an advanced level of
fundraising knowledge and professional competency.
Ms. Joyaux has more
than 25 years experience with not-for-profit organizations. As staff,
she has served as an executive director and chief development officer.
As a volunteer, she has served on numerous boards of directors, in the
capacity of president, development and nominating committee chairs, and
director-at-large.
From 1999 through
2001, Joyaux served as Chair of the Board of CFRE International – the
baseline credentialing program for fundraisers – leading the
organization to independence. She has been an officer of the Association
of Fundraising Professionals, the largest association of professional
fundraisers in the world. Joyaux has served as an officer and board
member of the State Arts Advocacy League of America, a board member of
the College of Arts and Letters Alumni Association at Michigan State
University, and a board member of the foundation serving the Alliance
for Children and Families.
In 2000, Joyaux
founded the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island and serves as its first chair.
The Women’s Fund, located at the Rhode Island Foundation, is part of the
global movement that seeks to level the playing field for women and
girls. Joyaux has led the Women’s Fund in the development of its values
and mission, organizational structure and volunteer recruitment, and
grantmaking guidelines. She is also designing and leading Fund’s
endowment campaign.
Joyaux also founded
Rhode Island Arts Advocates and has been a board member of Nonprofit
Resources of Southern New England, the Sexual Assault and Trauma
Resource Center of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Coalition of Library
Advocates, the Rhode Island Chapter of the Association of Fundraising
Professionals, and Looking Glass Theatre.
