In addition to workshops and conference presentations, Joyaux develops
comprehensive, integrated curricula for organizations. For example,
Joyaux created a 4-part, comprehensive curriculum in fund development
for the Alliance for Children & Families. Then Simone conducted a
session to train the trainers for the curriculum. She has also created
governance and fund development curricula for various community
foundations. Joyaux has developed
and delivered fund development and governance curricula for grantees of
the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the Waterbury (CT)
Foundation, the Greater Worcester (MA) Community Foundation,
and the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven.
For the fund development program, participating
organizations were required to bring a team, which included the
Executive Director, Board Chair, the Fund Development Committee Chair,
and the Director of Development if such a position existed. For the
governance program, participating organizations were required to bring
the Executive Director and Board Chair. The team approach enhanced
learning and produced a core group to lead change back in the respective
organizations. |
The training
program for fund development covered all aspects of philanthropy and
fundraising, including board and staff roles, cultivation and
solicitation, and story telling. Following the success of the
fund development training programs, Joyaux was asked to develop a
governance training program. This 4-session series incorporated best
practice and practical examples of how to strengthen the board. Topics
included the functions of the board as distinguished from the
performance expectations of the individual board member; skills and
behaviors necessary to produce an effective board; recruitment
strategies including the screening interview; and, how to design and
facilitate an effective board meeting. |
