Here’s a great quote from Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

How do you make your donors feel? You control this. Your job is to make me, the donor, feel special. Your job is to create extraordinary experiences for me. Your job is to make me remember my feelings. Hmmm…. Your job is to reconnect me to my feelings, the feelings of why I care about this cause and why I give to you. Maybe I’m angry, damn angry. And afraid and a little bit guilty. Maybe I’m proud that I make a difference by giving through your organization. Maybe my charitable gifts are my life’s salvation.

I’ll never forget how you make me feel. If you’re doing your job – and doing it well. Or maybe I will forget. That’s up to you.
